4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Technologies Used.

As the video above shows we used many different technologies including:

Video Camera and Tripod
The video camera allowed us to start filming our project and get all our ideas on a tape to see what they looked like and if we wanted to use them. The tripod was the equipment used to hold the camera in place to allow us to get professional still, panning and steady shots.
This peice of technology was extremely useful as it meant we could take it out and film and then bring it back, connect it to a computer and edit our footage. It was a high quality camera which meant that it was effective in giving us high qulaity which came accross more professional.

Digital Camera and Phone
We used a digital camera and a smartphone to take photographs to illustrate evidence of us constructing the music video. These technologies were useful and they also had high quality which made the photos look clear and difinitive. It was effective as it showed what we were doing, what locations we were visiting.

Computer (imac)
We used the imac computer to upload, edit, blog and share our work. The imac allowed us to use high tech hardware such as final cut express and photoshop to change, cut and add effects to our footage, putting it all together. It also allowed us to create the digipak and the advert. It was extremely useful and effective as we could change what we wanted and what we needed to develop the best music video possible.

Final Cut Express
Final cut express was how we put our music video together. It allowed us to upload it, group it, cut it, change it, add effects, add or reduce sound. It is remarkable software which was extremely useful to us and gave an effect that allowed us to produce the music video.

Photoshop
Photoshop is software which allowed us to add effects, crop, change our still images for the digipak and advert. It allowed us to put them together creating a theme and fit perfectly with the video.

Youtube
Youtube allowed us to upload feedback, rough copys, official copys, surveys. It was a great peice of software that any body could access which made it easier to get publicity for our music video gaining much more feedback. We used this throughout the construction, planning and evaluation of our music video.

All of the physical technologies were digital which made them easier to use and much more compatable with the imac. The technologies worked perfectly together, all of the camera's and smarphone connected easily to the imac which we were using for all our footage and the imac also allowed us to access all software which we required to make our music video.

Powtoon
Powtoon is a type of software that I have used. It makes creative short stories on an effective powerpoint style including animations and effects to make it more interesting. Ina child like way. I found it fairly easy to use most of the time however it is very time consuming and in some areas such as getting all the timing right it can be difficult.

Slideshare
Slideshare is a powerpoint style presentation. It displayed the information that i wanted to show in a easy and themed way which allows you to look at it back at your own place to process and develop the information that I am giving out. I really liked slideshare and found it difficult at first to use however once I had tackled how to do it it was fine,

Animoto
Animoto is a short story shown in just pictures. I felt that a good way to show how I used technologies was to give lots of images and then talk about how I used them in more detail. I didnt include every picture of every single software and technology that I used as I didnt want it to go on for too long and wanted to make it a little bit more interesting. It was easy to use once I figured how to do it and did take up a lot of time finding the pictures making the presentation and then talking about it.

Bluetooth
I used bluetooth when getting pictures from one imac to another with my partner. It was a long process but we did it in the end and it was worth it as we could then both use the pictures and blog about them individually.

Genre

Genre effectively means kind, sort and class. Genres have certain characteristics, for example if you saw a thriller then you are bound to see certain things that you would usually identify with a thriller.

Audiences and Genres
The audience may choose to watch a film because of the genre of the fim and because they know and understand the charcteristics of this genre they then might find it enjoyable to predict what is going to happen next.

For example the film scream lays out the rules of the genre- what is going to happen and then shows it happening. This is postmodern.

An audience recognizes the key elements and conventions of a genre and respond accordingly, hese key elements are called paradigms.

For example in my thriller my key conventions may be: Crime, Chasing- Fast Pace, Mystery, Slow Motion, Blurring of the images.

Or my music video key conventions may be: Lip Synching, Slow Editing, Seeing the back of our main character- walking away.

Two types of paradigms have been identified:

Iconographic: signs and symbols (costume, props, settings in a genre)
Structural: the way a text is put together and the shape it takes, how the structures in the text deal with issues such as ideology and gender (how is gender represented)

Target Audience
Genres appeal to certain target audiences. For example our thriller was targeting a young audience mainly teenagers between the ages of 16-25 who are male. Whereas our music video was targeted at a young audience similarly ages 16-25 who are female.

Christian Metz
it is said that genres tend to become 'tired' over time with audiences becoming less interested. He identified four phases:

1. The initial Phase (first created)

2. The classical phase (being bettered, in its element, at its best)

3. The declining phase (starting to go downhill, not as well made, less important characters)

4. The parody phase (making a joke out of the genre, ending the genre)

Example

1. Airport
2. The towering Inferno
3. Airport '80: The Concorde
4. Airplane!

Example in music videos

1. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
2. Thriller - Michael Jackson
3. Scream - Michael jackson
4. Friday - Rebecca Black / Gangnam Style (postmodern and ironic)

Institutions and Genre
Producers of generic narratives depend on a certain amount of immediate communication with the audience. They want the narrative to be easily comprehensible. Genres that use key conponents that are easily recognizable are particularly important.

The audience know what to expect from a genre but at the same time they want something new and some variations to prevent dissatisfaction and boredom. Thus any text in a genre is a combination of the familiar and the unexpected.

Key components of Genre
-Stock characters (a villain having a small army of people and a hero having an assistant)
-stock plots, situations, issues and themes (Mcguffin)
-Stock locations and Backdrops
-Stock props and signifiers
-Music and Sounds
-Generic conventions

Feminist Film Theory and Audiences

Laura Mulvey is a feminist.
She argues that the theory develops logical arguments:
1. Cinema reflects society
2. Therefore cinema reflects a patriarchal society
3. How does a patriarchal society manifest into cinema?

The Gaze
The gaze of the camera, so what the audience see through the camera is from a male prospective. Within the narrative male characters direct their gaze towards female characters. This suggests that the male gaze is active and the female is passive

Therefore the audeince is made to identify with the male gaze and see the film through that perspective. The camera films from a optical as well as libidinal point of view. Thus three levels of the cinematic gaze- camera, character and spectator- that objectify the female character (the triple gaze)

The audience see through the eyes of the camera... the camera sees through the eyes of the male character... the male character is objectifying a woman. Eg. James Bond Dr No.

Another example is Megan Fox in transformers. She is seen as a sex object and one of the main attractions in the film, she serves no purpose but for boys/men to fancy her and try to persue her.

Look at the way the male is viewing her, instead of looking at her face he is looking at her sexual body parts. Therefore objectifying her.

Also look at the angle in which the camea views her, the mise-en-scene also shows a male gaze.

Therefore he audience is constructed in a may compelled to the male gaze. Women are forced to look at the text as though they were a male member of the audience as you can see above. This occurs through the process of Suture.

Agency
Agency means the power to change the narrative, the power to move the plot onwards. In the classical hollywood film, the male is the agency, he is active and powerful. He is the one whom all the dramatic action unfolds around and the female character is just there, being passive and powerless. She is an object of desire for the male and for the audience.

Mulvey argues that women have two roles in film:
  1. They are an object of erotic desire for the characters.
  2. There are an object of erotic desire for the audience.

Our Video
Bailey Morgan- Let Go does not conform to these feminist ideas. In actual fact our character is homosexual so our aim was the opposite to wanting men to look at her like an object. Also our aim was that the camera was through a woman's prospective and not a mens. Therefore demonstrating this idea of the 'male gaze' being challenged.

Sututre

Classical Hollywood narrative, editing, sound and mise-en-scene make their films so well that they make only one preffered meaning and they structure their narrative so that the audience fall into only believing this preffered meaning. The audience may be unconsious of this and think they are interpreting it in their own way but really they are being told and made to interpret itthe way the producer has encoded it.

Our imaginations allow us to get sucked into the fillms and relate it to our own experiences and lives outside of the cinema. According to there heorists the audience Stitches itself into a film. This is made easier when the filmmakers make the techniwues, codes and conventions of a film invisible. So you dont notice the editing or the camera angls and what affect they are having on you.

An example of this is in the film Crash.

Even though the narrative and structure of the film has basically told the audience what is going to happen, so they know what is going to happen next they still cannot control how they are feeling when it happens, or how you react when you see it happening on screen. This is because you are stitched into the film. You are relating to it as if it was real. The music and the build up by the filmmaker has been done so well that you are sucked in.

David Morley

David Morley claims that we dont just focus on one media text at a time, we watch tv whilst listening to music or we listen to music whilst reading a magazine or more in more modern cases are on our telephone. However media is still a part of our lives, a big importnant part. Its the politics of the living room.

Reception Theory

Reception theory is a study of how producers when producing films etc encode texts and how the audience decode the texts. It is based on the idea that there is no single meaning for any media text and focuses on what people see and then the meanings they produce from what they see.

Preffered meaning is what producers want you to understand and get, this is the message they are giving out. However anybody can have different interpretations depending on age, gender, social status and social context.

Sometimes the audience may correctly decode the message, however they may also reject the message or fail to understand the message.

Stuart Hall identified three types of audience readings of the text.

1. Dominant / Preferred
2. Negotiated
3. Oppositional

1. Dominant/Preferred
- This is when the audience decodes the message just like the producer wants them to and agrees with it. For example listening to a speech and agreeing with it.

2. Negotiated
- This is when the audience either accepts, rejects or refines elements of the text. For example neither agreeing or disagreeing with the speech.

3. Oppositional
- This is when the dominant meaning is recognized but rejected for cultural, political or ideological reasons. For example total rejection of the speech and active opposition; feminists reading a lads magazine.

Our Video
Based on our audience feedback we have a dominant/preferred reading. Our audience understood the message clearly and knew what the song was about and the message that the video was trying to get across.

The Uses and Gratifications Model

This is a model which is the opposite of the effects model. It explores the reasons why people consume media and what they hope to gain from the experience. The theory suggests the audience is active which means they choose to watch the media and they are in control, they are not being forced to do anything, they are making the choice for there own pleasure.

The audience are not duped, they can reject, use, play or agree with the media meanings and are free to form their own interpretations.

Why audiences may use media texts:

  1. Diversion; watching something which takes your mind of other things, purely watching it because you just want to.
  2. Escapism; playing games which take you into fantasy. For example sims or call of duty.
  3. Information; consuming media which gives you information such as documentaries.
  4. Pleasure; consuming media for enjoyment such as sports channels purely for enjoyment, for fun.
  5. Comparing relationships and lifestyles with one's own; watching reality tv and consuming media about different peoples lifestyles wanting to relate and constantly comparing.
  6. Sexual Stimulation; watching/ consuming media that may arouse you eg; pornography.

This may help with issues such as:
  1. Learning; learning how to play games or learning from documentaries or even from others in many different ways.
  2. Emotional Satisfaction; watching something or consuming media that makes you feel emotional stable.
  3. Relaxation; Consuming media that makes you feel less stressed for example watching a film.
  4. Help with issues of personal identity; consuming media which lets you decide what suits you and who you are.
  5. Help with issues of social identity; where you fit in society by the music you listen to for example.
  6. Help with issues of aggression and violence; instead of taking anger out on people they may take their anger out on computer games. Suggests that audiences act out their violent impulses through the consumption of media violence, the inclination towards violence is therefore sublimated and the risk of violent acts being committed is lower.

Audience Theory

Theories of audience that help us to come to a better understanding about the relationship between texts and audience:

  1. The Effects Model or the Hypodermic Model
  2. The uses and gratifications model
  3. Cultivation Theory
  4. Two step Flow Theory
  5. Reception Theory
  6. Suture
  7. Feminist Audience Theory - Laura Mulvey

The Effects Model: This is a theory which suggests the public are influenced directly by the media, it suggests that the consumption of media texts has an effect and an influence on them. It suggests that audiences are passive and powerless and they cannot prevent the influence. The power lies with the message of the text.

The Effects Model: The Hyprodermic Model

This suggests that the media inject the audience, it is like a syringe and the message directly affects them. Therefore the media works like a drug and the audience gets addicted, unstable and believe this.

Supporting Evidence: The Bobo Doll experiment
The Bobo Doll experiment suggests that children are influenced by films, mainly horrors. It was conducted by Albert Bandura. The idea was that he got a group of young children to watch a video of an adult assulting a Bobo Doll and then they was put in a room full of toys with a Bobo doll to see what they do, they often assaulted the Bobo doll in the same way they saw the adult assult it in the video. According the Albert and many others this was evidence that children copy behavior which they see, such as in horror films, childs play, the actions will be copied and it is therefore dangerous for them to watch it.

88% of the children imitated the violent behavior that they had earlier viewed. 8 months later 40% of the children reproduced the same violent behavior. This suggests that media affects what people do, especially young children and proves that it directly (straight after) affected them.

However the theory is critiqued as it doesn't take into consideration different personalities, age, gender, sexuality, race of the children, the upbringing and range of experiences of the children such as the way they are treated at home, are they neglected or abused at home? It has also said to be bias as they pretty much led the children into doing what they wanted them to do. A gun left in a room would lead a child to play shooting games, a hammer in a room would lead a child to smash things up and a doll which the child has been shown to use as some sort of punching bag would obviously use as a punching bag.

Also examples that the media give out false information is the James Bulger Case where two ten year olds tortured a three year old until his unfortunate death. Media gave out a message that it all happened because the children were influenced by childs play. In actual fact the children had no recollection of ever watching childs play and the reason for there actions was mainly due to there socialisation of being neglected and abused at home.

No case could be proven to demonstrate a link between the text an the violent acts.

Moral Panic: an intense feeling expressed in a population about an issue that appears to threaten the social order/ a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests. A moral panic can be influenced or created by the media.

Cultivation Theory: A more refined version of the hypodermic needle model, suggests that repeated exposure to a text will desensitise the audience. eg; films such as The Exorcist and The Hills have Eyes were once banned and then re-released were asked questions such as what is all the fuss?

Two Step Flow Theory: rather than the direct influence suggested by the effects model there are two steps. People are not influenced by what they see but by the opinions of dominant figures (opinion leaders) and what they say about it. A common example of an opinion leader is a president or a celebrity.

Twitter, a social networking site where people share their opinions is a way for celebrities and opinion leaders to affect other people that are not as involved in the media's opinions on certain subjects. Advertisement targets celebrities as they realised word of mouth means their products get more well known and sell more.

Lady Gaga vs Adele

Adele is a singer who is quite traditional in the way she presents herself on stage and the way she wrights and sings her songs. She is very highly respected for a big voice and standing on her own with a microphone. She is a girl next door who is not as skinny as ever and in actual fact claims to have a weight problem. Her target audience is mainly girls as most of her songs are about break ups and being depressed as most girls go through in there teenage years. She is more of a sister to younger girls and definitely a role model in life about being independent, talented and successful.

On the other and Lady Gaga is more adventurous with her music and her style of performing. She is very as some say 'outrageous' with the lack of clothing she wears and what she does wear is usually very loud and makes a statement that she is different. She is very typical in her figure for a pop star however some many say she is a different and better role model as she is not afraid to be different and in the society we live in this may be a big deal for some young people growing up.

As you can see in this video Lady Gaga demonstrates being creative and if you like 'weird'. However she interestingly makes reference to 'Bauhaus' which is a german school for fashion and art. This demonstrates from her background her passions and interests.

Lady Gaga is said to be similar to David Bowie when he first entered the industry. He was also seen as 'weird' and creative.

As you can see Adele is walking the streets slowly looking sad and depressed talking about a break up. The music video is in black and white which also suggests sadness. She went to BRIT school which is a school for performing, this demonstrates her passions from a young age just like Lady Gaga.

Digipak Analysis

Rough Cut Feedback From Survey.

Question 1: On a scale of 1-10 (ten being most enjoyable) how much did you enjoy watching the music video?

On average we got a figure of 8.33 which suggests that our music video is enjoyable.

Question 2: Is there anything you would change? Why?

As shown above we got a varied response. Some of the suggestions were to make the video more colourful however our aim was not to make it too colorful as the song is quite a sad song. We also got a comment that suggested either looking into the camera or looking away, however in the video i am singing to the camera trying to get a message out therefore glancing into the camera is effective. We also got a comment to make some shots shorter which we have taken on board and agree with.

Question 3: Do you feel the song went with the video?

100% yes. Therefore we know we have made a good video to match our lyrics.

Question 4: If not, why?

No response, not relevant.

Question 5: Do you feel the lip synching was well done?

We got 8/9 respondents saying yes it was very well done. We will be touching up certain parts of the lip synching however it is all well matched.

Question 6: Do you feel the editing of the music video was well paced?

A response of 7/9 said it Yes it was well paced. However 2 correspondents suggested it was too slow, we are looking to speed up some of the end parts as they are long shots which are unfinished so this was good feedback.

Question 7: Do you feel the camera work was creative?

7/9 correspondents said our camera work was creative. However 2/9 suggested that it could be improved, this is good feedback as we havent finished filming completely yet, we still have one more location to add which involves many different shots.

Question 8: Do you feel that you got a message from the music video?

Our feedback suggests that 8/9 correspondents got a message from the music video which is good as it was our aim! 1/9 suggests they didn't, hopefully when the video is finished they will as it will be more clear with our last location added.

What message?

Brilliant, our main aim was to get across that you shouldn't let anything bring you down especially not your past and that you get stronger over time. This is what our correspondents got from our music video so we are very pleased with this feedback.

Album Cover Exercise

This is an album cover exercise. Firstly i randomly selected a band name, a album name and a picture. I then edited the text onto the picture, changed the colour and the font and tried out many different filters. However none of the filters portrayed the name boldly enough so I went with the solid text.

Digipak Analysis

Eva Cassidy

Eva Cassidy is also an acoustic singer who uses a guitar to express her music on many occasions. I believe that she is a similar artist to Bailey Morgan and therefore to compare there digipak would be effective.

Eva has a picture of herself on the front of the digipak. She then has a list of her songs on the back. Eva has pictures of her different albums on one side which is her promoting herself however it could also be different mini shots of the video. On the CD is a picture of the guitar which she has used, this is effective as she is an acoustic guitar player so it portrays the type of music she is presenting.

The uses of Pop videos- Branding (Katy Perry)

How Katy Perrys videos are used to reinforce her brand and her private life. As Kety Perry usually uses narrative in correlation with her video it is clear to see the story and the moral of it.

Katy Perrys video Firework may be inspiring for more teenage girls/boys who are looking for a role model, who need encouragement. She is showing herself as that person who will help you and encourage you to be who you are, like a mother or a big sister would. The video has a positive message to be yourself and be confident at any circumstance. Katy Perry looks like a sensible adult giving advice.

However in Katy Perrys video Last Friday Night she was portrayed as a nerd who nobody really liked or took notice off then when she displayed herself in less clothing, without a brace and with nice hair she looked popular and had an amazing time. This may appeal to young girls as it may be what they are going through themselves, what they want to happen to them. This is a very young and feminine appealing video.

Katy Perry then went on to create California Gurls which portrayed her as in a world made of candy that she can explore.  However although the video looks like it may appreal to a younger audience because there's so much candy, the song has many sexual references. As Katy Perry was in a relationship with Russell Brand at the time it may be Katy telling the world about her relationship with Russell... how it was sexual but seen as childish. This may appeal to younger audiences because of the video but I believe is mainly aimed at an older audience, 18+.

Katy Perry then gives us a real insight into her feelings with Wide Awake. In this video, making reference back to Russell Brand again, they have broken up and Katy Perry is left heartbroken and left to get over this on her own. The video shows that fairy tales aren't what they seem, there is not a prince charming and if you think there is he is a liar (shown by the prince crossing his fingers) which means all men are the same (referring to russell brand). Also we see Katy being rescued by her childhood, the person she used to be, she is indicating she is going back to this person where she was happy (shown by the lyric "i'm born again").  This is almost a message out to young girls about men, about being wrapped up in a fairy tale and getting your heart broken then getting out of this dark place (shown by the dark place she's walking through in the end being lit up by the sun). Another indication to a fairytale may be eating the rotten strawberry as cinderella eats an apple and then cannot move but is rescued by her prince, instead of Katy being rescued by her prince she is rescued by herself, who she used to be. Katy Perry shows she doesn't need anyone but herself and this is definetley more appealing to young girls again but also to older women who may be going through the same thing, she gives out hope to them that if she can do it they can too, they just need to find themselves.

Roar is one of Katy Perry's most recent songs and videos. In this video it is based on the jungle book theme which is again children's stories. Katy perry loves to show her emotions and feeling via disney, almost proving them to be amazing in a different way to what they are usually portrayed as. In this video Katy introduces it as a follow up of her last, about men. A man 'brought her down' (in the aeroplane and emotionally- russell) but when he was gone she realised she can be the man in her life and do it all herself, survive on her own (shown by her wearing the alpha clothing and fending for herself). She has portrayed herself once again as a role model for young girls, a motherly and sisterly image with a feminine touch (shown by necklaces saying 'kitty perry').

Most popular music videos of 2013/14

1. Miley Cyrus- Wrecking Ball

Miley Cyrus's video became a hot topic in the media. It it the MOST watching video in 2013 on vevo with 474,380,247 views. I believe Mileys video was extremley effective as it captures so much emotion for example the tears falling from her eyes during the close up. I also believe that it was publisised so much because she was wearing no clothes in some of it and also the idea that she is on a wrecking ball licking metal. The song is about the distruction of her and her life because of a lover which is very popular amongst young girls who are trying to relate therefore could portray the popularity. This supports Goodwins inventions of narrative and perfomance as she is showing distruction and being stripped of her identity physically whilst singing about it emotionally.

2. Miley Cyrus- We Cant Stop

Miley Cyrus is also number two is the most watched videos in 2013 on vevo with 322,833,330 views. I believe Mileys video was so popular because it was very unique and outrageous showing things that you wouldnt expect somebody to perform. It does relate to Goodwins coventions as it does match the narrative with the lyrics as she is singing about rebellion and non stop partying and this is what she is physically showing in her video. I believe the song is more performance based as it is more interesting, attractive and memorable than the song.

3. Will.i.am ft Britney Spears- Scream and Shout

Will.i.am and Britney's video is the third most watched video in 2013 on vevo with 327,972,661 views. i believe its very interesting technically as it has s much packed into it and its such a smooth brilliant quality. However I believe that it gets very boring and there is no moral. It supports Goodwins key conventions as it illustrates amplify disjuncture where the song and the video are not related. It is also shown that the performance is key rather than the song.

4. Rihanna- Diamonds

Rihanna's video is the fourth most watched video in 2013 o vevo with 385,022,476 views. I believe Rihanna's video captured a lot of desperation, love and care and I thik tis came accross via the portrayal of the horses and her alone in a desert. I think it supports Goodwins conventions as it fits the lyrics by showing a series of evets and pictures with trun the lyrics into an iage especially when there was very bright lights shinig through and she was singing "shine bright like a diamond".

5.Katy Perry- Roar

Katy Perrys video was the fith most watched music video on vevo with 316,019,775 views. I think this video is magical in a way its something you do not usually see, an insight into a real disney world. I think her theme has matched her moral of the story perfectly which also supports Goodwins theory that the song should either be the opposite or the images presented should represent the lryics. I think Katy Perry has been clever in a way she has attracted two different audiences, with the song its a more older teenage generation however the video appeals to an audience from a yound age upwards.

6. P!NK - Just Give Me A Reason ft Nate Ruess

P!nk's video is the sixth most watched video on vevo with 247,842,895 views. Similar to Katy Perry P!nks theme matches with her lyrics and shows us pysically what she is feeling like, lonely and heartbroken wondering why... she wants a reason (Goodwins theory) Her song/lyrics are more powerful than her video and thats the main focus. However I think the video could of been a bit more interesting with some more locations.

7. Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines ft T.I. Pharrel

Robin Thicke Blurred Lines video was the seventh most watched video on vevo with 250,713,270 views. Alongside Miley Cyrus this video also created much controversy in the public eye as it came across sexist and patriarchal, displaying women as sex objects for men to look at. However this may be why it was so effective, the song was an explicit song refering to sexual activities and this is what came across in the video. It was not a typical video which Goodwin says is a good thing as the typical video (love stories) should be avoided.

8. Rihanna - Stay ft Mikky Ekko

Rihanna's video stay came at eigth in vevo's most watched videos with 231,425,295 views. Rihanna's video gives a dark depressed atmosphere, her shots of her in the bath represent her being alone as when you are in the both you are usually alone. Also its a place where most people tend to think and the lyrics are representing what she is thinking. It is showing a break up which is heard by the lyrics so the video and the lyrics are parallel in a way that Goodwin supports. It is also however the typical love story breakup which Goodwin suggests to avoid.

9. Naughty Boy- La La La ft. Sam Smith

Naughty Boy's video came ninth in vevo's most watched videos with 228,783,058 views. This video is made well in a way it gives a point of view of a child however it doesnt give you a clear story, it allows your imagination to make up the story and I believe this is one of its key qualities. It has good repeatability of "la la la" and the young boy putting his fingers in his ears which is one of Goodwins key features. The aim of the video is more concept based getting accross the message of 'if you dont want to listen just put your fingers in your ears and walk away'.

10. One Direction - Kiss You

One Direction Kiss you came tenth in video's most watched video's with 194,703,977 views. This video is fun and effective as in it gives off a good vibe which makes it exciting to watch. This may attract younger audiences such as teens and below. The Amplify Disjuncture is not showing images about a girl being kissed which is what the lyrics are about however it is about the band having fun. This is a more performance based video and the video is unrelated to the song.

Micheal Jackson

Micheal jackson was not only said to be the "king of pop" but he was also the "king of the pop video"

Early Pop Videos such as Rockin' robin meant that micheal jackson was big from day one. His videos however didnt start off as interesting.

This is just a standard musiv video showing the band and the main singer on stage doing a performance, this can be done by anyone. there isnt much going on that would catch your eye and the main focus is the song. There is some lip synching going on and its very basic drawing all attention to the jackson 5.

However as time went on and Micheal Jackson continued to be even more famous, he got older and more attractive. He went on in his career to create Rock With You.

Rock With You was his first proper official music video where he involved different angled shots, lighting, extravagent clothing. The lighting is very basic however very effective, it is a spot light that focuses on him the whole way through, very memorable for a first music video. Micheal was very entertaining on camera and that was why it was so effective just having close ups and panning shots of him.

Micheal jackson was a born performer and he was known to be remarkable in front of a camera, in a music video. His next step in his career was Billy Jean.

Billy Jean was a huge success. It is one of the most memorable music videos as it tells a remarkable story and is one of the music videos where you see the real Micheal jackson.

Filming (school)

Filming in the school was much easier than we anticipated, however it was difficult to get lots of students in the shot. We filmed it about 4 times and played around with the order in which we would say and do things also filmed from different angles. We noticed after uploading it what angle that we wanted and it fitted perfectly, we played with the speed of the shot to make it more effective i.e the "leave me alone" part and made it clear the anger and frustration that i was trying to put across.

Filming (park)

Whilst filming in the park after the long journey we got there and realised the camera battery was on around 5%! This was heartbreaking so we filmed as much as we could and then decided to take some pictures!

Its always fun filming but its so cold!!!

When we did have full battery in rapheals park we filmed close ups of my mouth singing and mid shots of me singing too, this park had the perfect scenery for the shots that we wanted and we incorporated it well.
