The Preliminary Task

The Process

  1. Firstly we decided what song we was going to do and who was going to do it.
  2. We knew that we had to do different angles so we planned out which different angles we were going to use, we decided on a low angle, a side angle and a long shot forwards.
  3. Then we started to film, we filmed each angle in two takes to make sure that we had it right.
  4. Once we were filmed we decided that we wanted some people to do a chorus.

Our VOXPOP

Vox Pops Evaluation

What is the purpose of VOX pops?
Vox pops are a form of research done to show different peoples different point of views. It is usually used on the news to show that they are giving the public an opinion on the current event, in our case it is to show different points of view on music videos. Asking if:

  • Do you watch Music Videos?
  • What is your favourite Music Video?
  • What do you like about Music Videos?
  • What makes a great music videos?
  • Where do you watch Music Videos?
About Our Questions
Our questions were easy to understand as they were simple and didn't require long answers but just simple straight forward ones. They could of been more detailed however I feel they were detailed enough to get the answers in which we required. The questions were designed to get the answers i which we wanted however we did want the public to give there own opinions and didn't want to steer them in any direction.

Filming
The camera was held steady at all times as we worked as a team, we had a spot where we required them to stand on paper so they was in the right camera angle. We framed each shot well however the sound equipment was used well but sometimes was shown in the corner of the frame so we could of improved in that sense.

In Summary
Our VOX Pop provided the relevant research and information in which we wanted and needed so we could develop our ideas and make the best video possible. Our work was very technically secure and provided everything in which we needed.

Organic and Synthetic

Organic Bands
Organic bands are music bands that have grown up together as a band and they formulated themselves because they all wanted to work with eachother. They wasnt put together but they chose to be together and loved making music together.
Radiohead are a rock band who were originally together and stayed together becoming very famous because of there love for making music. An example of there music is above. They put there music first and not there image which is key with an organic band, they make the music they want to make which is mainly rock style and dont do it to please record labels.

Synthetic Bands
Synthetic bands are bands which are individual artists which have been put together mainly to fill a gap in society. They do not choose to be together but are seen to LOOK good together so are told to be a band, this is usually the 'xfactor' way.

One Direction are a famous young band who were manufactured by the Xfactor. They were put together to create this young boys with the right look attracted lots and lots of young girls kind of image and its worked absolutley amazingly. They are said to be one of the most popular boy bands in the world. There image comes before there music and they often do whatever the record labels want them to do. Money is usually the ultimate goal.

Independent companies

Independent companies often have no links or strings attatched to the major companies but are well known, they usually focus on specific artists or a genre of artists and spend lots of money building them up.

Domino Records

Domino records are an independent company that sign artists and build them up. They signed the Artic Monkeys and built them up to be fabulous quality well known artists who are still famous until this day.

Sinead O'connor and Miley Cyrus Intertextuality Scandal

Look familiar?
Sinead O'connor made the famous video 'Nothing compares 2 u' with a close up of her face pretty much the whole way through, also sheading a tear. The song was about her mother who had passed away and it as very emotional. Sinead O'connor was extremely famous for it.

Miley Cyrus with her recent outrageous attitude and behaviour made the video 'Wrecking Ball' using exactly the same technique as what Sinead O'connor did, having a close up of her face and sheading a tear, Mileys song was about a break up. This intertextualtity led sinead o'connor to voice her opinion on the video to Miley.

Sinead wrote a letter to Miley expressing how she doesnt want Miley to get pressured into taking her clothes off in all her video's and licking metal, basically portraying a very prostitutional image of herself, like a sex object. Sinead O'connor unintended to be rude or disrespectful however in some terms saw herself looking out for Miley.

However Miley responded outrageously and rudely writing a tweet about Sinead O'connor mocking her mental health issues saying she was like an "original Amanda Byne". And saying she had "no time to respond as [she] has a performance at the saturday night live tonight"
